Introductory Post

Hey guys (and gals), I guess first off I should welcome you to my blog, and thank you for taking the time out of your day to give it a read. I’ve known for quite some time now that I need to start writing, but getting started has been more difficult than I could have ever imagined. I like the idea of writing, but know that a formal writing style isn’t really my thing, so the idea of a personalized blog was something I was really drawn to. I see it as a necessity because almost all of the most respected strength and performance coaches in the industry seem to echo the same opinion on the matter, “Writing is an essential component to your growth as a professional.”

Convincing yourself that you are knowledgeable enough to write about something is a tough task, but convincing yourself that people will actually give a damn about what you have to say is a whole different ball game. Toeing the line between sharing information with the general public and overstepping the boundaries of my knowledge base is important to me so I think it’s imperative to “have an understanding of what you understand” before you start slinging BS at people.

I sat on my hands for a few weeks to try and first answer that question; what do I understand? Not so sure it’s a good thing it took multiple weeks, but in order to do so I first organized some bullet points about myself:

·      I took a job coaching athletic performance about 4 years ago at a local performance center in my hometown.
·      I got my less than highly touted degree from an institution in my hometown that few in the industry would recognize as admirable.
·      I was a mediocre college baseball player for that same institution.
·      After I graduated I was hired on full time to train clients of the general public and athletic realm.
·      After a year or so, it became apparent that I was the one most passionate about the development of the athletes and was allowed to handle all the assessing, programming, and training of them using any methods I deemed necessary.
·      I since have programmed for hundreds of different athletes ranging from 8 year old soccer players to 21-year-old college football players.
·      I’ve essentially handled all of my own learning along the way, reading blogs of other great coaches, some human performance related textbooks, and attending a few weekend conferences run by people who are most definitely smarter than I am.
·      Aside from my friends, family and girlfriend my most passionate love lies in sports, coaching those sports, and helping athletes experience progress within the realm of their sport.

Needless to say, my professional resume really isn’t anything to write home about, but I’m going to give this a go any way. I hope from here on out this can be a valuable resource for anyone interested in the human performance realm. If nothing else it will be a great time capsule for me to look back on some day and see where I have been with my career. I look forward to having a ton more to talk about as I pursue my entrepreneurial career. I wanted this first post to serve solely as a short introduction. I hope to narrow my focus to more specific topics in future posts. I would love to be able to answer any questions to the best of my ability that anyone might have through this channel as well. Thanks for reading, and here we go, I guess.
